[UPDATE 9pm 11/29/10: Our friends at US Field Hockey finally updated a few more of the results pages, so we've updated the results below. Still no finals from the K pool. Sigh.]
Despite a handful of MD/DC teams having a shot at winning their pools after two days at the National Hockey Festival in Arizona, just one — Shore — managed to close the deal.
Two — Southeast Storm and H2O — finished second in their pools, just missing out on the top spot.
Here are the results for the Maryland/DC clubs all in one place. (We hunt them down so you don’t have to!) The results for every pool at Festival are here — the links to the individual standings change every time USFHA updates the results, so don’t bother trying to bookmark them.
In the standings, each team was in a seven-team pool, all played six games. Where they finished in each pool is after their record. Pools are next to the team name (use the link above to find and see the entire pool).

* USFHA lists Shore as the champion of its pool but had not updated the record to include the last game as of 8 am Sunday 9 pm 11/29/10. Nor have the results for pools T or Q been updated.
Going into the last day, three of the U19 clubs from this area were in good shape with no losses. H2O needed to knock off the 4-0 Kathdin FHC to win the pool but ended up with a 1-1 tie. Even still, the club finished without a loss.
Southeast Storm was in a tougher pool, with two others sitting at 4-0 and 3-0-1 at the start of action on Sunday. Southeast took care of 4-0 team, Impact, which also ended up losing ANOTHER game to finish 4-2. The other 3-0-1 team, Hockey Rocks, also won its two last games and since its tie was with Southeast on the first day (0-0), the winner of the pool came down to goal differential. Southeast scored 17 and allowed only 1, but Hockey Rocks put in 23 and allowed 2.
Shore was in good shape atop its pool on Sunday morning, needing only to beat the second-place 2-0-2 team and not lose to a 1-3-1 team to claim the pool. We’re still waiting for USHFA to remember to update the pool results.
Pool T is this year’s version of the Tie Pool, since after two days every single team had at least one tie, with two, including Mavsports, having THREE ties and three teams with two ties. Five of the seven teams have mustered just one win, with the current leader, Stealth, having a whopping two wins. And two ties, of course. (We’re still waiting 12 hours after the tournament ended for USFHA to update those results with Sunday’s games. )
When all was said and done, there were THREE teams with three ties. Stealth won the pool with four wins and two ties. Everybody else had one or two wins.
The group had problems getting the ball into the cage, with Stealth mustering a total of 11 goals, but eight of those came in two games. The next closest goal total was seven, and that team finished sixth because they also allowed nine goals. There were five games with 0-0 ties and a bunch of 1-0 scores.
It’s worth hunting down (use the link above and navigate to Pool T) and having a look at the standings and results. Bizarre!
Over in the U16 division, TNT was theoretically in a position to win its pool Sunday, but it had to defeat WC Eagles (at 4-0 with 20 goals for and none allowed) and a 0-3-1 team AND hope that a 2-1-1 team also beat the Eagles.
Didn’t happen.
The Eagles put a 4-1 whupping on TNT and a 4-0 beating on South Jersey Edge and that was that for TNT. The Eagles finished unbeaten and gave up only one goal in six games, that being to TNT.
